Family planning counselling
Our trained providers offer confidential, non-judgemental counselling that helps clients understand their reproductive choices and select the method that best suits their health needs, preferences and life stage.
Expanding access. Strengthening systems. Advancing choice.
Every person should have the knowledge, services and support to make informed decisions about their reproductive health. Yet millions continue to face barriers to accessing quality care — whether because of distance, limited service availability, stigma or lack of information.
FRHS India works to remove these barriers through an integrated approach that combines direct service delivery, health systems strengthening, research and evidence generation, and policy advocacy. By working alongside governments, communities and partners, we improve access to quality reproductive healthcare while helping build stronger and more responsive public health systems.
Helping individuals and couples make informed reproductive choices.
Family planning is at the heart of FRHS India's work. We believe everyone should have the knowledge, services and support to decide whether, when and how many children to have.
Working through our clinics, Clinical Outreach Teams (COTs) and partnerships with government health facilities, we provide high-quality, client-centred family planning services that are safe, voluntary and based on informed choice.
Our trained providers offer confidential, non-judgemental counselling that helps clients understand their reproductive choices and select the method that best suits their health needs, preferences and life stage.
FRHS India provides a broad basket of contraceptive choices, accompanied by counselling, follow-up care and referral whenever required.
Our clinics provide comprehensive family planning services, including counselling, reversible contraceptive methods, permanent methods, follow-up care and management of side effects.
Our mobile clinical teams work through government health facilities to provide quality family planning services closer to communities, particularly in underserved and rural areas — delivering counselling, permanent and reversible methods, and follow-up support while strengthening the public health system.
Ensuring access to safe, legal and respectful abortion care.
Every person has the right to access safe abortion services without stigma, discrimination or unnecessary barriers. FRHS India provides comprehensive abortion care that is confidential, evidence-based and delivered in accordance with the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act. Alongside service delivery, we work to improve awareness, strengthen provider capacity and advocate for policies that expand access to safe abortion care.
Provision of medical abortion services supported by clinical assessment, counselling, follow-up care and contraception counselling after abortion.
Safe surgical abortion services provided by trained providers in approved FRHS India clinics, following national clinical standards and guidelines.
Clinical management, counselling, contraception and referral services to support recovery and prevent unintended pregnancies.
Every client receives voluntary counselling on contraception and family planning options to help prevent future unintended pregnancies (Post Abortion Family Planning).
Safe abortion services are currently provided through FRHS India clinics, which are equipped to deliver comprehensive abortion care in accordance with national laws and clinical standards.
FRHS India also works to improve access to safe abortion through provider training, research, public awareness and policy advocacy. As the Secretariat for the Pratigya Campaign for Gender Equality and Safe Abortion, we work with governments, civil society, medical professionals and the media to create a more enabling environment for abortion rights and access.
Supporting young people to make informed choices.
Adolescents and young people often face significant barriers to accessing accurate information and quality sexual and reproductive healthcare. Social stigma, provider bias, misinformation and limited awareness prevent many — particularly unmarried adolescents — from seeking the care they need.
FRHS India works to create a supportive ecosystem where adolescents and young people can access accurate information, youth-friendly services and informed guidance without fear of judgement or discrimination.
Our clinics and outreach teams provide confidential, respectful and non-discriminatory sexual and reproductive health services. All providers are trained to deliver adolescent-friendly counselling and care.
We work directly with adolescents and young people, delivering workshops and interactive sessions on sexual and reproductive health, relationships, consent, contraception, menstruation and mental wellbeing.
FRHS India has trained more than 16,000 frontline health workers, including ASHAs and ANMs, on adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health, while directly reaching over 2,000 adolescents and young people through awareness sessions and workshops.
Our toll-free helpline provides confidential, judgement-free counselling and information, helping young people access reliable guidance on sexual and reproductive health.
Preventing cervical cancer through awareness, screening and early detection.
Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer when women have access to timely screening and appropriate follow-up care. FRHS India is currently piloting an integrated cervical cancer screening and awareness programme in Barmer district, Rajasthan, in partnership with Dhara Sansthan, with support from the Suzlon Foundation. The initiative aims to improve awareness, expand access to screening and strengthen referral pathways for underserved women.
Through a community-based approach, FRHS India raises awareness about cervical cancer prevention and the importance of regular screening, while organising HPV DNA screening camps for early detection among eligible women. The programme also strengthens referral and follow-up systems to ensure timely care for women with suspected cervical abnormalities, and builds the capacity of healthcare providers, frontline workers and community stakeholders to deliver quality screening, counselling and referral.
Strengthening public health systems to improve reproductive healthcare.
Strong public health systems are essential to ensuring that quality reproductive healthcare reaches everyone who needs it. FRHS India partners with state governments to strengthen reproductive health and family planning services by improving provider capacity, enhancing quality of care, supporting public health facilities and generating evidence that informs programmes and policies. Rather than creating parallel systems, we work within existing government structures to improve service delivery, strengthen institutional capacity and expand access to quality reproductive healthcare for underserved communities.
We deploy mobile clinical teams through government health facilities to expand access to quality family planning services in underserved communities while strengthening public sector service delivery.
We provide technical support to government health facilities through mentoring, supportive supervision and quality improvement to strengthen service readiness, provider performance and client-centred care.
We strengthen the skills of government healthcare providers through technical training, hands-on mentoring and continuous support to improve the quality and availability of reproductive health services.
We conduct operational research and implementation studies that generate evidence to improve programmes, inform policy and expand access to a wider range of reproductive health services and contraceptive choices.
