At the age of 32, Rani has 17 children. Not only did these pregnancies have a severe impact on her health, but it also had financial ramifications for the family. She comes from an extremely underprivileged family. Her husband, who is the sole bread-winner of the family, is a daily-wage laborer. Being able to provide sufficient food for their family including 17 children is already a daunting task and the fear of another pregnancy was adding to her worries, thus affecting her physical as well as mental well-being. During a mobilisation camp near Bikaner, Rajasthan, FRHS India team members got to know about Rani’s condition. FRHS India team reached out to her, counselled her about the contraceptive options available and ways she can prevent/ terminate unwanted pregnancies.
Rani shared, “Having the right information about different contraceptive services has helped me in making informed decision about my life. I thank FRHS India for reaching out to counsel me about family planning services and for supporting me in accessing quality service for my preferred contraceptive method. This decision has transformed my life, I am really happy as I do not need to worry about unwanted pregnancies anymore. I pledge to support FRHS India in raising awareness in my community so that more women are able to make decisions about their bodies and future.”
